HospiceWits

HospiceWits is a Johannesburg-based organisation providing specialist palliative and hospice care across greater Johannesburg and Soweto. Its purpose is to improve quality of life for people living with life-limiting illnesses, while supporting their families and strengthening communities. Care is delivered at home, in the community and in inpatient units, through an interdisciplinary, person-centred approach involving doctors, nurses and other specialists.

Services include palliative care from diagnosis, symptom and pain management, medication education, care coordination, psychosocial counselling, family support and advance care planning. When appropriate, hospice care focuses on comfort, dignity and relief from pain, symptoms, anxiety and stress. HospiceWits supports people with a range of serious conditions, including cancer, HIV and AIDS, dementia, neurological conditions, heart and organ failure, and advanced lung disease. Its services also include patient registration, training, partnerships, volunteering, events and community grief support. The organisation offers counselling for individuals and families before and after a patient’s death, as well as grief services in community settings.
