Historische Vereniging De Hospitaalridders is a Dutch historical reenactment association dedicated to researching and portraying the Hospitaller Order around 1248. Inspired by the medieval Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, its members bring the lives of 13th-century crusaders to audiences at events, museums and schools across the Netherlands and Belgium. Their presentations combine military demonstrations with religious and everyday life, showing how knights and sergeants marched, handled weapons and equipment, and organized themselves as a unit.
The association also portrays the wider community that supported the Order, including a surgeon, priest, scribe, woodworker, weapons specialist and cooks. Visitors can learn about medieval medical practices, crafts, clothing, equipment and food, while experiencing a recreated camp. Historical research is central to the group’s work: members consult written sources, archaeological discoveries and historical studies, and maintain evolving handbooks on clothing and equipment.
The association welcomes newcomers and experienced reenactors, offers opportunities to spend a day with the group, and provides a practical camp guide for prospective members
