Houw en Hoede

Houw en Hoede is a historical European martial arts club offering weekly sword-fighting classes in Tilburg and Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Its sessions welcome beginners and experienced practitioners, with instruction in European longsword and rapier, as well as rapier and dagger. Beginners learn foundational stances, cuts and thrusts, while more advanced students work to develop their technique and apply it at greater intensity.

Classes are taught by a team of instructors led by Max van den Ekart, who has more than 16 years of sword-fighting experience and over nine years of teaching experience. Lessons are structured in three 45-minute blocks, with the training theme changing every two months. The club uses steel training swords, called feders, alongside protective equipment, and beginners can borrow practice gear during class.

Houw en Hoede offers scheduled weekday training at gym locations in both cities, with monthly membership options for one or multiple weekly sessions. The club is an aspirant member of H.E.M.A.-Bond Nederland and welcomes enquiries from anyone interested in learning more or trying a free introductory lesson.
