About Howard Abrams
Howard Abrams is a software engineer whose personal website shares his technical interests, professional background, presentations, and writing. His work spans programming, web development, networking, and DevOps, with experience dating back to teaching himself to program in 1980. After graduating from the University of Utah, he shifted from graphics programming to networking and the early Internet in 1993. During the 2000s, he helped startups in Portland, Oregon, build web applications and services, and in 2013 moved into a DevOps-focused role hosting large OpenStack instances for Workday.
The site features articles and resources on Clojure, Java, JavaScript, Linux, Emacs, and other topics, alongside his resume and contact information. Emacs is a particular passion, reflected in presentations on topics including Eshell, Emacs scripting, Literate DevOps, and solo role-playing games. Howard has also presented on regular expressions, Lisp, A/B testing, and OpenInfra. Visitors can explore his technical work, learn from his talks, review his career history, or contact him, including through Mastodon.
