Harm Reduction International (HRI) is an organisation working to advance drug policies that uphold dignity, health and human rights. It contributes to harm reduction and drug policy reform movements through research, advocacy, resources and events, with equity central to its work. HRI examines how criminalisation and drug policies affect people across different circumstances, including the intersecting impacts of gender, race, ethnicity, poverty and socioeconomic status.
Its research and publications cover topics such as access to health services, drugs and human rights, funding for harm reduction, drug-related executions, and the effects of drug policy in prisons and detention. Flagship projects include the Global State of Harm Reduction and research on the death penalty for drug offences. HRI also publishes reports, briefings, statements and event summaries, and shares news and media coverage.
For more than thirty years, the organisation has convened the international harm reduction movement through its Harm Reduction International Conference. It also hosts online events and offers opportunities for individuals and funders to get involved in supporting its work.
