The Hellenic Society for Near Eastern Studies (HSNES) is a non-profit, apolitical organisation based in Chalkida, Greece. Founded in Athens in 2000 by individuals interested in the history and civilisations of the eastern Mediterranean and western Asia, it was registered as a Greek charity in 2001 and relaunched in 2012 as a non-profit civic company and non-governmental organisation. HSNES works to promote understanding of this culturally rich region through research, education and public engagement.
The Society’s activities include archaeological projects, publications, lectures, tours, conferences and exhibitions, alongside articles and news about relevant developments. Its featured work spans Greek-Turkish cooperation in cardiac surgery, the Greek language in Jordan and inscriptions from antiquity to the present, Greek studies at the University of Jordan, and archaeological survey and excavation at Tell Kufrein. HSNES also maintains a library and provides resources on Near Eastern studies, archaeology, history, contemporary issues, museums and related publications. Visitors can learn about current and past projects, explore its publications and events, and find information on becoming a member or supporting the Society.
