About Huddersfield Canal Society
Hudds Canal Society is a brand dedicated to ensuring the viability and promotion of the Huddersfield Narrow and Broad Canals as navigable waterways within the overall network in perpetuity. Since its formation in 1974, this society of enthusiastic volunteers has been working tirelessly to restore the once derelict Huddersfield Narrow Canal and improve the Broad Canal. Their hard work paid off in 2001 when the Narrow Canal was reopened after 27 years of campaigning and restoration.
The society relies on volunteers to run their shuttle boat service, which operates between Marsden Station and the Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre. With trips lasting 12 to 15 minutes each way, visitors can enjoy a scenic journey while supporting the upkeep of the boat through generous donations. They also organize boat trips in Uppermill during weekends, subject to volunteer availability.
