Huize Henricus

Huize Henricus is a family-run residential and day-activity provider in Emmer-Compascuum, Drenthe, offering a supportive place for adults with intellectual disabilities, sometimes alongside autism or mental health challenges. The organisation brings living, meaningful activities and leisure together in a former monastery, with a homelike environment, personal space and support available around the clock.

Founded by Peter and Ingrid van Donselaar, Huize Henricus is now led by Yljo van Donselaar and Mandy van Donselaar-Leehuis, with the founders remaining closely involved. Its small-scale approach combines a regular team, personal attention and clear communication. Staff tailor guidance to each resident’s needs, interests and abilities, helping people make choices, build confidence and develop independence rather than taking over unnecessarily.

Day activities include creative work in the atelier, woodworking, household tasks and outdoor activities such as caring for animals. Residents can also cook, exercise and spend time together. Guided by the Eigen Initiatief Model, Huize Henricus supports residents to take responsibility, explore new possibilities and participate in everyday life with professional guidance nearby.
