The Human Library Organization (HLO) is an innovative international nonprofit based in Copenhagen, Denmark, dedicated to fostering dialogue and understanding by challenging societal stereotypes. Established in 2000, the Human Library creates unique events where “books” – real people with diverse life experiences – are available for personal conversations with “readers. ” This hands-on learning platform operates across six continents and over 80 countries, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within communities and corporate environments.

Through a variety of programs, the HLO offers DEI training and engages with organizations to enhance cultural awareness among employees. They facilitate a safe space for open dialogue on taboo topics, aiming to reduce prejudice and foster human connection across different social, religious, and cultural divides. By encouraging personal storytelling and active listening, the Human Library serves as an impactful resource for promoting understanding and inclusivity in an increasingly polarized world
