The House of Humour and Satire Museum celebrates its 51st anniversary on April 1, 2023. This iconic cultural institution in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, emerged from the local folklore and carnival tradition, with the aim of serving both creators and enthusiasts of humorous art. It is a home for comedians and satirists who have always been underappreciated by the authorities.

With enthusiasm and ambition, the Museum established itself as a global promoter of contemporary humor and satire in the late 1970s. It started its international activities with the first Gabrovo Biennial of Humor and Satire in the Arts in 1973. Since then, it has organized numerous national and international competitions and events in the fields of art, literature, folklore, cinema, and theater.

The Museum publishes its own humor and satire magazine, called Apropo, which sets new standards for specialized publications in Bulgaria. It also houses a unique art collection of humorous and satirical works from around the world. Gabrovo has firmly established itself as a hub for humor on the global map.

Today, the House of Humour and Satire Museum is focused on modernizing its architectural spaces, expanding its online presence, and supporting young contemporary artists while planning for an innovative future. Behind all these achievements are thousands of artists from Bulgaria and abroad and a dedicated team who have shared their professional journeys with the Museum
