The Hungry Cities Partnership (HCP) is an international network dedicated to exploring the intricate links between rapid urbanization, urban food systems, and migration within the Global South. Established with a vision to foster sustainable cities, HCP conducts collaborative research, training, and advocacy aimed at enhancing food security for migrant communities across diverse locations such as China, India, Jamaica, and South Africa. The HCP’s recent initiatives include the MiFOOD Project, focusing on South-South migration and food security, and encompasses new partner countries like Ecuador and Namibia.
HCP seeks to generate valuable insights into food security dimensions, assess the impact of urban food systems on poverty, and evaluate the role of women and youth in the informal food economy. By fostering a knowledge-based platform, HCP aims to influence urban food policies and contribute to global discussions on food security and poverty alleviation. Funded by notable organizations such as the SSHRC and IDRC, the partnership also emphasizes building institutional capacities and mentoring new researchers in the field.
