Huon Yacht Club

Huon Yacht Club is a community sailing club based in Port Huon, Tasmania, with a long connection to boating on the Huon River. The region’s sailing tradition grew from the days when small vessels carried local produce and residents to Hobart, and the first Huon Regatta was held at Shipwrights Point in 1852. The present club was formed on 29 October 1947, and its clubhouse, built by members, opened in 1957. A distinctive starter’s box on the clubhouse roof gives race officials a clear view of the course.

Today, the club’s activities include regular sailing, racing and cruising on the Huon River and D’Entrecasteaux Channel, as well as social events. It publishes sailing programs, race results and event information, and offers sailing courses. Members and visitors can also access a slipway and its booking form, view club galleries and follow links to local sailing resources. With a history of success at home and internationally, Huon Yacht Club continues to support sailing and community life in the region.
