HURUmap

HURUmap is an innovative platform designed to make census data accessible and engaging for storytellers, journalists, and civic activists across Africa. By providing a user-friendly toolkit, HURUmap allows users to easily find and embed interactive data visualizations into their narratives, thereby adding depth and context to the stories they tell. The project relies on high-quality data sourced from reputable official documents, including the government Census, PEPFAR, and Uwezo, ensuring the reliability of information presented.

Developed on the Wazimap platform—a collaborative initiative by OpenUp and Media Monitoring Africa—HURUmap targets countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. It aims to empower civil society by providing free access to data and tools, fostering a community around open data practices. Additionally, HURUmap aligns with Code for Africa's mission to promote reusable technology solutions, making data accessible for all and supporting the growth of the global civic technology community. All output from the project is freely available under a Creative Commons license, encouraging widespread reuse and collaboration.
