About Husflid
Norges Husflidslag - Oslo is a brand dedicated to promoting traditional handicrafts in Norway. Established in 1910, this non-governmental organization is committed to enhancing traditional craftsmanship, passing on craft skills, and sharing the joy of making. With 19 regional and over 350 local member groups, Norges Husflidslag has a network of more than 20,000 individuals, including over 150 handicraft professionals and 34 handicraft shops.
One of their notable initiatives is the Red List, a voluntary effort to document and register endangered craft skills and techniques. Through their work, valuable knowledge and skills are preserved, breathing new life into forgotten crafts. Additionally, Norges Husflidslag actively works to maintain the cultural heritage of bunads and folk costumes, offering training programs and collaborating with various organizations.
Teaching craft skills is a significant part of their mission, and they offer a wide range of courses throughout the country. Norges Husflidslag also focuses on engaging children and young people through craft groups and workshops. They are actively involved in international collaborations, participating in campaigns such as Nordic Craft Week and organizing the Young Craft camp for youth.
Overall, Norges Husflidslag - Oslo is dedicated to preserving traditional craft techniques, promoting cultural heritage, and fostering a community of craft enthusiasts across Norway
