Hutchinson Deafblind Trust is a specialist charity based in Yorkshire, established to support children and young people who are deafblind from birth, become deafblind during childhood, or have other multisensory impairments. Guided by a group of trustees committed to supporting deafblind people, the Trust has principally served the Kirklees and Calderdale areas while welcoming enquiries from further afield.
The Trust’s work has included offering support and grants to people who became deafblind at birth or during childhood. Its website also provides information about deafblindness, including how combined sight and hearing loss can affect communication, access to information, and independent mobility. It explains that deafblindness does not necessarily mean a person is completely deaf or blind; many people retain some sight and hearing but still face significant challenges.
The site lists weekday opening hours and provides contact details for enquiries. However, a message from the chair notes that the Trust had not operated for some time and was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, so prospective service users may wish to contact the organisation to confirm current availability.
