Rather than focusing on romantic or sexual relationships, the service is designed to help users build friendships and find company for things they would like to do. Members create a profile, select from hundreds of listed wishes, and browse profiles of people with similar interests. They can send a connection request; once it is accepted, they can start chatting.

Activities might include practising English, playing chess or tennis, hiking, taking a city walk, attending a tea ceremony, or playing board games. By putting shared interests at the centre of profiles, hvirtka aims to make it easier to start conversations and meet compatible people. The platform is open to users in Ukraine and other countries, including Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.

hvirtka states that it has zero tolerance for bullying, harassment, and toxic behaviour, and invites users to report concerns. Accounts and associated profiles and chats can be deleted at any time
