The Hutt Valley Model Engineering Society Inc is a model engineering club based in Wellington, New Zealand. Its purpose is to promote model engineering across a broad range of interests, including clocks, precision tools, miniature trains, traction engines, marine plant, electronics, CNC and 3D printing. The society welcomes people interested in building, operating or learning about models and engineering.
The club operates a railway with a 7¼-inch gauge ground-level track and a raised track accommodating 2½-, 3½- and 5-inch gauge locomotives. Public train rides run on fine Sundays from late January through to Christmas, generally from 1pm to around 4pm. Members help maintain and operate the railway, with track duty scheduled a few times each year. Driver training is encouraged, and members may become certified to drive the club’s diesel and steam locomotives.
The society also connects members through its monthly newsletter, Blast Pipe, which features model engineering articles and is regularly mentioned in Model Engineer magazine.
