Η Ελληνική Κτηνιατρική Εταιρεία (ΕΚΕ) είναι το αρχαιότερο επιστημονικό σωματείο στην Ελλάδα με ίδρυση το 1924. Η ΕΚΕ από την ίδρυσή της μέχρι σήμερα έχει σαν βασική της αποστολή την επιστημονική μεταπτυχιακή κατάρτιση των Ελλήνων κτηνιάτρων σε όλους τους τομείς της κτηνιατρικής επιστήμης. Απαρτίζεται από τρεις κλάδους: - Ζώα συντροφιάς - Παραγωγικά ζώα - Τρόφιμα/Δημόσια Υγεία Η ΕΚΕ πάντα στην πρώτη γραμμή των εξελίξεων λειτουργεί υπό το πρίσμα των αρχών της Ενιαίας Υγείας (One Health concept) όπου η υγεία του ανθρώπου, των ζώων και το περιβάλλον αποτελούν έννοιες αλληλένδετες και αλληλοεξαρτώμενες. Με αυτό το γνώμονα οι δράσεις της αφορούν στην υγεία των ζώων, των ανθρώπων και το περιβάλλον καθώς ο ρόλος των κτηνιάτρων στην προάσπιση της δημόσιας υγείας είναι καθοριστικός.
