Kokikai Hyattsville

Aikido Kokikai of Hyattsville is a not-for-profit martial arts group located near Washington, DC, and the University of Maryland’s College Park campus. It teaches Kokikai Aikido, a modern Japanese martial art that emphasizes natural movement, calmness, and controlling an attacker through timing and leverage rather than direct opposition or striking. The school welcomes teenagers and adults aged 18 and older, with classes held at the Prince George’s Plaza Community Center in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Instruction combines traditional Japanese martial arts practices and etiquette with verbal explanations intended to help students understand and reproduce techniques. Several experienced instructors lead training, including a head instructor who holds a fourth-degree black belt and has more than 30 years of experience. Classes meet Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, and newcomers are welcome to observe and ask questions.

Training is offered in eight-week sessions, with enrollment fees that vary according to whether participants live within designated areas of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties
