HYCOM. org is a brand that offers the HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM), a data-assimilative ocean model developed and evaluated by the multi-institutional HYCOM consortium. Sponsored by the National Ocean Partnership Program (NOPP) and part of the U.

S. Global Ocean Data Assimilation Experiment (GODAE), HYCOM aims to provide a three-dimensional depiction of the ocean state in real-time with fine resolution. It also offers boundary conditions for coastal and regional models, as well as oceanic boundary conditions for global coupled ocean-atmosphere prediction models.

The partnership members consist of leading institutions in the oceanographic community, including universities, research laboratories, and commercial entities. Together, they develop and demonstrate the performance and application of eddy-resolving, real-time global, Atlantic, and Pacific ocean prediction systems. These systems utilize advanced data assimilation techniques and assimilate satellite altimeter sea surface height, sea surface temperature, and in situ measurements.

The goal of HYCOM. org is to provide integrated analyses/reanalyses for research programs, improve open-ocean nowcasts and forecasts, and contribute to various applications such as search and rescue operations, shipping routes, environmental tracking, and commercial fisheries. HYCOM.
