Hydrovolt is a joint venture between Northvolt, a Swedish battery manufacturer, and Hydro, a Norwegian energy and aluminium company. Their mission is to provide sustainable battery recycling solutions in Europe. Hydrovolt recognizes that even at their end-of-life, batteries are valuable and should not be wasted or sent to landfills.

Through their recycling process, they recover materials such as copper, plastics, aluminum, and a material called black mass, which contains valuable metals like nickel, manganese, cobalt, and lithium. By circulating these materials back into the manufacturing of new products, Hydrovolt ensures that little of the battery material is wasted. Hydrovolt is particularly focused on supporting Norway's electric vehicle industry, which is ahead of any other country in electric vehicle adoption.

They have partnered with Batteriretur to recycle EV batteries and have a recycling plant in Fredrikstad capable of processing 12,000 tons of battery packs annually. In addition to serving Norway, Hydrovolt aims to support the larger European battery industry and its transition to net-zero emissions by 2050. By recycling batteries, they can provide a sustainable source of raw materials for battery production, reducing the need for mining and minimizing environmental impact.
