Hypo Hounds is a Diabetic Alert Assistance Dog Charity that is dedicated to training dogs to detect and alert to dangerous changes in blood sugars for Type 1 Diabetic individuals. By alerting their owners or their families to these changes, Hypo Hounds can help prevent potentially life-threatening hypoglycaemic attacks, or hypos, as well as detect potential episodes of hyperglycaemia, known as hypers. Their services focus on enabling children to gain independence and freedom, but they are also able to help adults with a clinical need.
Approximately 400,000 people, including around 29,000 children, are currently living with Type 1 Diabetes in the UK, and Hypo Hounds plays a critical role in reducing hospital admissions and saving the NHS millions of pounds each year. In addition to their main program, they also offer mental health and well-being support as well as respite care sessions.
Support Hypo Hounds by making a donation, sponsoring training equipment, or becoming a Puppy Parent. The difference they are making in children's lives is truly remarkable.
