I-QUA is an interregional innovation platform focused on developing sustainable wastewater solutions for rural and outlying areas. It brings together knowledge and partners, then tests ideas through practical pilot projects, with the aim of turning effective approaches into usable solutions for wastewater collection and treatment. Its vision is a more circular alternative to conventional wastewater systems: recovering energy and resources from wastewater while returning treated water to the ground.
I-QUA’s pilots explored a range of settings in the Netherlands and Flanders. Dutch projects took place at HVCH football club in Heesch, a car wash in Gilze-Rijen, and Pukkemuk recreation park in Dongen. Flemish applications included restaurant Gust’Eaux in Kuurne, a goat farm in Lochristi, and a mobile wastewater treatment unit used at various festivals. The platform’s work and findings are gathered in a final report, which includes pilot descriptions, an assessment framework, process information, and lessons learned. I-QUA also shares project news, results, and information about innovative wastewater solutions through its website and partner network.
