The Institute for Environmental Solutions (IES) is a Colorado-based organization that partnered with communities to address environmental challenges through accessible, cost-effective programs grounded in rigorous science. Founded in 2004, IES worked to reduce air and water pollution, energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions while supporting healthier communities. The organization is currently on indefinite hiatus, with operations suspended in September 2021.
IES’s Tree Project applied urban forestry science to improve Colorado cities. In collaboration with schools, local governments, and community members, it organized tree planting, site restoration, environmental education, and ongoing maintenance projects designed to strengthen urban natural resources and community health.
The Chemical Footprint Project focused on preventing water pollution and protecting human and environmental health. Through science-based workshops and educational resources for children and adults, it explained contaminants of emerging concern in household and personal care products and food packaging. Participants learned practical, low-cost ways to reduce exposure, prevent contamination, and make safer products.
