About IARU Region 1
The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) is a global federation of amateur radio organizations in over 160 countries and territories. Founded in 1925, the IARU serves as the voice of the amateur radio community, advocating for spectrum privileges and promoting the interests of radio amateurs worldwide. The IARU is structured into three regional organizations aligning with ITU regions and is governed by an Administrative Council.
Through its efforts, the IARU has secured new bands and spectrum privileges for radio amateurs, facilitated international roaming, and represented the amateur radio service at various international forums. Recognized by the UN and ITU, the IARU collaborates with organizations influencing spectrum allocations and supports amateur radio development in developing nations.
