About Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) is the leading regional fisheries management organization (RFMO) dedicated to conserving and managing tuna and tuna-like species, as well as associated species and ecosystems, across the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Covering a vast area from Canada in the north to Chile in the south, IATTC plays a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of these vital marine resources. At IATTC, our team of experts and scientists work diligently to protect the precious biodiversity of the region.
Through strategic science plans, data collection, and stock assessment research projects, we gain valuable insights into the early life history, life cycle, and behavior of these species. We employ cutting-edge research techniques like tuna tagging to better understand their movements and habits. Additionally, IATTC collaborates with the Agreement on the International Dolphin Conservation Program (AIDCP) to develop effective procedures, guidelines, and instruments.
We provide important statistical data reports, executive reports, and publications to keep stakeholders informed about the fishery status and developments. By actively engaging with parties, observers, and stakeholders, IATTC continuously strives to maintain the sustainable management of these fisheries. Join us in our mission to safeguard the health and longevity of tuna populations and their ecosystems in the Eastern Pacific Ocean
