International Astronomical Union

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) is a prestigious organization formed in 1919, dedicated to advancing astronomy and fostering collaboration among global astronomical communities. In 2019, it launched the IAU100 initiative to celebrate its centennial anniversary with the theme "Under One Sky." This year-long celebration aims to enhance awareness of a century of astronomical discoveries and to promote the use of astronomy in education, development, and diplomacy.

The IAU100 initiative features a diverse array of projects and events designed to engage various audiences, including policy-makers, students, families, and science enthusiasts. The program is executed globally and regionally, with a strong focus on national and local activities coordinated by the IAU100 Task Force and its Secretariat based at Leiden Observatory in the Netherlands. This comprehensive outreach effort seeks to captivate interest in astronomy, ensuring a wide-reaching impact through National IAU100 Committees and collaborations with national science organizations and societies.
