About International Cooperative Alliance
The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) is a non-governmental Cooperative Federation that represents the Cooperative Movement on a global scale. The organization serves as the guardian of Cooperative values and principles, bringing together cooperatives from all over the world. In Africa, the ICA operates through its regional office, the International Cooperative Alliance-Africa (ICA-Africa).
ICA-Africa plays a vital role in promoting and strengthening autonomous and viable cooperatives in the region. Through capacity building and policy advocacy, it supports ICA member organizations in Africa, ensuring their socio-economic benefit. With a history spanning over 51 years, ICA-Africa has been instrumental in the development of the cooperative sector.
The office was initially divided into two regional offices, which later merged into one regional office based in Nairobi, Kenya. ICA-Africa continues to make a significant impact in various sectors, including agriculture, savings and credit, health, and training and education
