About International Cryosphere Climate Initiative
International Cryosphere Climate Initiative (ICCI) is a global network of senior policy experts and researchers dedicated to preserving the Earth's cryosphere. Formed in 2009, ICCI works closely with governments and organizations to develop and implement initiatives aimed at mitigating the impacts of cryosphere warming. ICCI's programs focus on addressing the unique climate dynamics at play in the cryosphere while also emphasizing the urgency of global climate efforts in relation to CO2 and other greenhouse gases.
Led by its directors and policy experts, who bring extensive experience as former civil servants, ICCI provides valuable policy advice and support to governments and NGOs in addressing the critical issue of the cryosphere. The organization operates as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in the United States and as a charitable organization under Swedish regulation. ICCI operates globally, with its headquarters in Burlington, Vermont, and ICCI-Europe based in Stockholm, Sweden.
ICCI's work spans various regions, including the Arctic, Alps, Himalayas, Andes, Patagonia, Antarctica, and East African Highlands. They offer expertise in policy and climate negotiations, melting ice ambition, Arctic-Himalayan connection, and more. Through their publications, such as the State of the Cryosphere reports, and collaboration with organizations like IPCC and UN Environment Programme, ICCI actively contributes to the scientific understanding and discourse on the cryosphere and climate change.
