ICDO, the International Civil Defence Organisation, is an intergovernmental entity dedicated to safeguarding life, property, and the environment during emergencies. With a history spanning 85 years, ICDO has evolved from an association to a non-governmental organization and finally to an international organization. Operating through three bodies—the General Assembly, the Executive Council, and the Permanent Secretariat—ICDO supports member states and emergency services in preparing for and responding to natural and man-made disasters.

They offer technical assistance, consulting, training, and access to a network of disaster management experts. Facing the challenges of climate change and emerging risks, ICDO utilizes information technologies and forecasting mechanisms to reduce vulnerability to recurring and increasingly devastating disasters. The organization also houses the International Monitoring and Coordination Centre, which provides states with crucial disaster-related information and training.

With 60 member states, 16 observer states, and 22 affiliated members, ICDO plays a vital role in building the capacity of countries worldwide to manage disaster risks and promote sustainable development.
