ICOS

The International Council of Onomastic Sciences (ICOS) serves as a vital hub for scholars and researchers dedicated to the study of names, including place names, personal names, and various proper names. Established to promote international collaboration in onomastics, ICOS represents a departure from its predecessor, the International Committee of Onomastic Sciences, by fostering inclusivity and individual membership. ICOS offers a range of services, including organizing congresses, workshops, and conferences where experts gather to discuss current research trends and share insights.

The organization features several working groups focused on different aspects of onomastics, such as toponymy and terminology, encouraging interdisciplinary research approaches. Additionally, ICOS provides resources through its publications, newsletters, and a comprehensive bibliography, ensuring that members stay informed about ongoing developments in the field. With official communication in English, French, and German, ICOS is committed to advancing name research while promoting networking opportunities among scholars worldwide
