About Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission of the Central Asia
The Interstate Commission for Water Coordination of Central Asia (ICWC) is an essential interstate organization authorized by the Heads of CA State. Its primary purpose is to make binding decisions on current and emerging issues related to water allocation and usage across the region. The ICWC is responsible for determining regional water policy and elaborating its key directions to meet the needs of all economic sectors while ensuring the sustainable and multipurpose use of water resources.
They also plan and approve water use limits for each republic and the region, create schedules for reservoir operation regimes, and adjust them based on updated forecasts and current water availability. Their main goal is to establish collective decision-making principles for common water-related issues and jointly implement programs while respecting the interests of all parties involved. Additionally, the ICWC coordinates large water infrastructure projects, facilitates research efforts, promotes water conservation technologies, and develops programs for emergency and disaster prevention and relief
