Set in a shared world of towns, forests, rivers, harbors, and distant regions, it lets players build their characters at their own pace. The game offers 17 skills, including woodcutting, fishing, mining, smithing, cooking, carpentry, and several combat styles. Players gather resources, craft tools and other items, prepare for battles, complete quests, and pursue progression across seven regions, with up to 99 levels in each skill.

Designed for flexible play, idle.am lets characters continue an activity for up to four hours while players are away, provided they have enough supplies and bag space. On returning, players can collect progress and choose what to do next. The game is free to start in a web browser, requires no download, and offers optional membership. Players can try it as guests, while registered accounts add access to trading, chat, friends, and guilds. A player-run market and leaderboards offer additional ways to connect and progress.
