The Institut dal Dicziunari Rumantsch Grischun (IDRG) is a Swiss institute dedicated to documenting and researching the Romansh language and its dialects. Based in Chur, it brings together linguistic scholarship and cultural collections, helping people explore the vocabulary, history and regional diversity of Romansh. Its central resource is the Dicziunari Rumantsch Grischun, available online as an accessible and searchable gateway to Romansh words.
The institute also maintains collections, including a photo archive, and presents material that offers insights into the language and its cultural context. Through its bookstore, visitors can order IDRG and Societad Retorumantscha publications, books and other materials. The institute shares research and activities through annual reports, projects, publications, newsletters and social media, and provides information about its team, history and philological commission.
Related resources connect users with Switzerland’s other national language dictionaries: the Glossaire des patois de la Suisse romande, Schweizerisches Idiotikon and Vocabolario dei dialetti della Svizzera italiana. The IDRG serves researchers, Romansh speakers and anyone curious about the language and its heritage
