Institute of Foundation Models

The Institute of Foundation Models (IFM), part of Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), is a global AI research lab focused on the open, independent development of frontier-class foundation models. Its work combines scientific research with practical applications, aiming to make AI a shared resource and address real-world challenges through responsible innovation.

IFM develops powerful, large-scale models, including a family of openly available frontier models, Arabic-language systems, and models for embodied reasoning and physical-world simulation. Its featured work includes K2 Horizon, Jais 3, an Arabic-native AI for speech, writing, and agents, and Nile-Chat, which supports Egyptian Arabic. The institute also highlights K2-65B, a large language model designed for sustainable performance.

With teams and locations in Abu Dhabi, Silicon Valley, and Paris, IFM brings together researchers and collaborators across disciplines and borders. It supports academic collaboration and industry innovation, connecting foundational research with scalable solutions intended to contribute to society and industry.
