IFSTC is Canada’s Interior Finishing Systems Training Centre, providing apprenticeship and professional development training for people entering or advancing in the finishing trades. The centre has operated for more than 25 years and serves apprentices across the province, with over 200 completing phases of in-class apprenticeship training each year. Governed by trustees representing construction workers, employers, and industry associations, IFSTC connects training with the needs of the sector.
Its programs cover Drywall Acoustic Mechanic and Lather, Drywall Finisher and Plasterer, Exterior Insulating Finishing Systems Mechanic, and Hazardous Material Worker. IFSTC also offers workplace health and safety education and upgrading courses for journeypersons seeking to strengthen their skills. Specialized options include First Aid, CPR and AED training, blueprint reading, layout, and preparation for the Certificate of Qualification.
Prospective apprentices can apply online, then meet with an in-house Industry Apprentice Liaison to discuss their application and potential placement with a contractor or invitation to in-school training. IFSTC also provides application guidance, grant information, frequently asked questions, and training verification resources.
