The O. Yu. Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPE RAS) is a major Russian and international center for geophysics, conducting both fundamental and applied research.

Its work spans planetary geophysics and geodynamics, exploration geophysics, seismicity and natural and human-induced hazards, geomagnetic and intergeospheric interactions, mathematical geophysics, geoinformatics, and gravity and inertial studies. The institute also carries out research related to Earth processes, mineral resources, and seismic instruments, and provides access to a shared-use research center.
