L'Inspection générale des affaires sociales est une inspection générale interministérielle du secteur social. Elle réalise des missions de contrôle, d’audit, d’expertise et d’évaluation, conseille les pouvoirs publics et apporte son concours à la conception et à la conduite de réformes. Elle intervient à la demande des ministres ou du Premier ministre, mais aussi sur la base de son programme d’activité.
