The Institute for Global Dialogue (IGD) is an independent foreign policy think tank located in Tshwane, South Africa. It is dedicated to providing balanced and policy-oriented analysis, debate, and documentation of South Africa and Africa's global politics and diplomacy. The IGD's mission is to promote a broader understanding of the role of foreign policy and diplomacy in achieving national and international development goals.
Established in 1995 as the Foundation for Global Dialogue, the IGD emerged as a response to the changing global order and the new South Africa's engagement after apartheid. With initial funding from the German government, the IGD focuses on policy research, catalytic dialogue, tailor-made publications, and grant-making for NGOs interested in international relations. In 2010, the IGD formed a strategic partnership with the University of South Africa (UNISA) to strengthen its research, dialogue, and publications.
Led by a non-executive Board of Directors with expertise in various fields, the IGD aims to become a globally recognized foreign policy think tank. Its work is guided by values such as integrity, credibility, independence, teamwork, excellence, creativity, impact, and good governance. By providing cutting-edge policy research and analysis, catalytic dialogue, and stakeholder interactions, the IGD strives to contribute to a Better Africa and a Better World
