The Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM) is a registered society that was established in 1989 to regulate and uphold the dignity, standing, and reputation of the profession of geology in Malaysia. As an influential body in the field of geology, IGM aims to provide a central organization for geologists, promoting the knowledge, study, and practice of geology and its various arts and sciences. They also facilitate friendly interaction and discussions among geologists through meetings and events.

IGM's seal, featuring a hammer flanked by silhouette maps of Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia, symbolizes the role of the geologist in Malaysia and their connection to the geological sciences. The organization follows a constitution comprising 14 articles and 86 paragraphs, covering subjects such as objectives, membership, meetings, finance, and more.

IGM members, which include Fellows, Members, Licentiates, and Graduate Members, observe the Rules of Professional Conduct set by IGM and are recognized as registered geologists in Malaysia. The registered place of business for IGM is the Department of Geology at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur.
