Poltegor-Instytut

Poltegor-Instytut is a Wrocław-based research institute specializing in opencast mining and related fields. Established in its present form in 1990, it builds on a history dating to 1950 and is described as a leading Polish research organization in surface mining. Its work covers lignite, rock and chemical raw materials, aggregates, geology, environmental protection, energy, and belt transportation. The institute’s mission is to develop innovative processes, technologies, methods, and technical solutions, with particular emphasis on cleaner, environmentally considerate extraction and the reclamation and revitalization of post-mining land.

Its research and development activities also include civil engineering, environmental engineering, industrial-waste management, hydrogeology, geotechnics, and geoinformation. Specialist departments and laboratories work in mining, environmental biotechnology, geology, water protection, and conveyor-belt technology and operation. Poltegor-Instytut undertakes projects and applied research for industry, provides expertise across its technical fields, and organizes scientific and professional conferences. It also publishes the journal Górnictwo Odkrywkowe, books, brochures, and conference abstracts, helping connect research with business and industry.
