Ihana Mama

Ihana Mama is the doula practice of Essi Nurmi, offering compassionate, personalized support to families during pregnancy, birth and the early months with a baby. Based in Porvoo, Essi serves the Helsinki metropolitan area and nearby parts of Uusimaa, and can also attend hospital births in HUS hospitals, Lahti and Kotka. She supports midwife-assisted home births in Porvoo and the metropolitan area as well.

Services include birth doula support, postpartum doula care and individual doula meetings. Families can choose a single appointment or ongoing support, with services tailored to their needs. Birth support may involve preparation during pregnancy, continuous communication, on-call availability around the due date, practical comfort measures and help for a partner to take an active role. Essi also offers support for planned or urgent caesarean births, subject to hospital rules.

After birth, she can help with everyday tasks, offer conversation and provide nurturing support. Ihana Mama’s approach emphasizes calm, safety, informed preparation and meeting each parent with warmth and respect.
