The International Heat Flow Commission (IHFC) is a dedicated organization focused on advancing scientific research related to geothermal energy and heat flow. Operating under the auspices of the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI), along with co-sponsors such as the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI) and the International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Oceans (IASPO), IHFC aims to enhance understanding of geothermal phenomena.

The commission promotes collaboration in geothermal research by developing standards, techniques, and methodologies for assessing thermal properties and quantifying geothermal energy resources. It maintains a robust Global Heat Flow Database and a Global Borehole Temperature Database, providing valuable resources for researchers and practitioners. IHFC also organizes international meetings, expeditions, and publishes scientific literature to disseminate knowledge in the field. With its diverse working groups, IHFC addresses specific geothermal challenges while fostering education and community engagement, ensuring vital insights into global geothermal issues.
