About Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission
The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) is Ireland's national institution dedicated to promoting and safeguarding human rights and equality. Established under the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014, IHREC is an independent public body that reports directly to the Oireachtas. With a commission comprising fifteen diverse members appointed by President Michael D. Higgins, IHREC reflects the multifaceted nature of Irish society.
