About @IITA BBEST Project
Welcome to the Black Soldier Fly for Bio-circular Economy and Environmental Sustainability (BBEST) project, a transformative initiative aimed at revolutionizing waste management, animal feed supply, and organic fertilizer production in Africa. With a focus on empowering African farmers, the BBEST project addresses the pressing challenges faced by smallholder chicken, fish, pig, and vegetable farmers, who struggle with expensive animal feed and fertilizer costs, leading to low productivity.
Through a collaborative effort, the project seeks to optimize the potential of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) biowaste processing, establish sustainable value chains for animal feed and organic fertilizer, and build the capacity of youth agripreneurs and stakeholders in BSF technology. By doing so, the BBEST project aims to improve livelihoods, enhance urban sanitation, and mitigate climate change in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Mali, and Niger.
