The International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) is a distinguished organization comprised of Indigenous Peoples from North, Central, South America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Their primary goal is to advocate for the Sovereignty and Self Determination of Indigenous Peoples, as well as the recognition and safeguarding of Indigenous Rights, Treaties, Traditional Cultures, and Sacred Lands. IITC is deeply committed to defending human rights and works diligently to raise awareness by making submissions and complaints to United Nations Human Rights Bodies.

They also issue statements and calls for action on behalf of Indigenous Peoples. Moreover, IITC actively participates in the UN Human Rights Council and provides training and capacity-building programs to ensure the promotion of human rights. Another critical focus area for IITC is food sovereignty.

They work alongside the UN Food and Agriculture Organization to develop cultural indicators for food sovereignty and engage with the United Nations Committee on World Food Security. Furthermore, IITC actively engages in environmental health initiatives, such as addressing environmental violence and reproductive health, pesticides, mining and resource extraction, climate change, and the UN Convention on Bio-Diversity. In their commitment to treaty rights and standard-setting, IITC actively participates in the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

They also promote the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and engage in business and human rights discussions. Since their establishment in 1974, IITC has hosted International Indian Treaty Conferences across various locations, allowing Indigenous Peoples to unite, strategize, and protect their rights, treaties, and ways of life.
