STV De IJshazen is a skating and training club based in Zuidwolde, serving members from Hoogeveen and surrounding villages in Drenthe. Founded in 1982, the club welcomes children, young people and adults, from recreational participants to competitive speed skaters. Its aim is to help members enjoy and develop their skills in skating.
During the winter months, members train on the indoor ice rink at Thialf in Heerenveen, generally from late September to mid-March. In the warmer months, the programme includes inline skating, cycling and dryland training. Inline-skating sessions take place at the track on Bentincksdijk in Hoogeveen, with training groups organised for different abilities. Cycling sessions are also open to members from junior age upward.
The club offers seasonal training schedules, events and opportunities to take part in activities such as skating and inline-skating competitions. Newcomers can contact the membership administration to learn more and arrange a free trial lesson. De IJshazen also provides club information, news and training guidance through its website.
