Ililani Foundation is a Hawaiʻi-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting ʻohana affected by cancer with practical help, encouragement, and moments of connection. Its name means “unexpected rain” in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, reflecting the organization’s aim to bring hope and aloha during the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. The foundation prioritizes kamaʻāina and Hawaiʻi resident cancer survivors, particularly families experiencing financial hardship, and extends its care to their immediate families, including children.
Its support is organized around three pillars. Resources include practical assistance, gifts and gift cards (makana), and educational support to help families navigate treatment and recovery. Through its signature ʻOhana Fun Days, the foundation creates personalized opportunities for adult cancer survivors in treatment and their families to enjoy activities, meals, rest, and time together. These experiences are made possible by donors, businesses, and community partners, known as Magic Makers, who may contribute funds, goods, or services. The foundation also hopes to offer higher education and trade school scholarships to socioeconomically challenged children in Hawaiʻi who have lost a parent to cancer.
