Madison County Genealogical Society of Illinois

The Madison County Genealogical Society (MCGS) is a nonprofit community organization dedicated to helping people explore family history and preserve the heritage of Madison County, Illinois. Its work brings together research, education, and shared discoveries, supporting both newcomers and experienced genealogists as they learn about their ancestors and the communities that shaped their lives.

MCGS offers access to genealogical collections that include cemetery records, family files, local histories, and rare documents. The society also provides resources and educational guidance on researching family histories, evaluating sources, documenting findings, and preserving personal stories. Its materials can help researchers investigate local connections and work through challenging questions.

Preserving family photographs is another focus, with guidance on protecting and digitizing images so that their stories remain accessible. Through cemetery preservation, memorial projects, and historical documentation, MCGS honors people who came before and safeguards their legacy for future generations. The society also encourages individuals to record memories, family traditions, milestones, and lessons learned, helping ensure that personal and community histories are not forgotten.
