About ima-mycology.org
The International Mycological Association (IMA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1971 to represent the interests of more than 30,000 mycologists worldwide and encourage mycology in all its branches. It works to strengthen collaboration across the field, raise the visibility of fungal science, and support access to mycological knowledge and research resources. The IMA provides information about international congresses, meetings, awards, news, and professional opportunities, helping connect researchers, educators, and others involved in mycology.
A central IMA initiative is IMA Fungus, its international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal, which publishes research across all aspects of mycology alongside news, meeting reports, reviews, and developments in the field. The association also collaborates with the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute on MycoBank, a free online repository and nomenclatural registry. MycoBank records new fungal names and combinations, with related descriptions, illustrations, and DNA barcode information, and assigns each novelty a unique identifier. Together, these publishing and registry resources support scientific communication, collaboration, and the documentation of fungal diversity.
